This work is about the production of meat in the UK. Meat consumption, as well as the methane gas emitted as part of its production, is a major ecological threat to the world today. Campaigners such as Sir. David Attenborough have spoken about this. Yet meat production is a massive industry, and the consumption of meat remains a major global issue today.
To make this work, I got access to Smithfield meat market in London, one of the oldest meat markets in the world. I was fascinated to study and record the work that went on there in the early hours of the morning. It is becoming better known that workers in this industry and in the abattoirs that provide the meat suffer psychologically because of this work. The sheer volume of carcasses overwhelms them. I am trying to convey this in these images in order to make us all think.
In future, I'm planning to work with farmers and abattoir workers to explore the. other dimensions.
